Hyphenate’s Responsible AI Usage Statement


Artificial Intelligence (AI) is an increasingly important tool, offering unprecedented possibilities for solution generation, content creation, and collaboration.  However, Hyphenate believes AI is still in its infancy, therefore, this AI usage statement is designed to guide Hyphenate in the responsible, transparent, and ethical use of AI.  The aim of this statement is not to hinder creativity or innovation, but rather to ensure that our use of AI aligns with our overall corporate values and respects our customers' rights while unlocking experts so they can focus on the uniquely human element of the solution creation process.


Transparency

Hyphenate recognizes that we must be transparent about our use of AI. This includes acknowledging when AI has been used to create or modify content.  Hyphenate does this by using a blanket statement on Hyphenate’s website and notifying customers via contract terms.

Accountability

Responsibility cannot be outsourced to a machine. Hyphenate acknowledges that humans are ultimately accountable for the actions of the AI. AI is an assistant, not a replacement for good judgment. Hyphenate’s company policy is that we should never publish software that removes the element of human development or review for quality and accuracy. Additionally, in case of any negative outcomes from AI-assisted content, we must take responsibility and remediate as necessary.

Bias

Hyphenate learns from the data it is fed, and thus can unintentionally perpetuate biases found in its training materials.  Many language models have filters to reduce the risk of bias or harmful outputs, but filters aren’t enough. It is Hyphenate’ and our customer’s responsibility to ensure that content we produce is reviewed for potential bias and developed to be inclusive and accessible.

Privacy & Data Security

Hyphenate must protect the privacy of our customers. Hyphenate adheres to all customer requests to not pass confidential information to any third party, including LLMs.  Hyphenate will prioritize the protection of individuals and society from potential harm and will work to minimize risks associated with AI technologies.

Continuous Improvement

Hyphenate recognizes that AI technology and usage is expanding rapidly.  To ensure the solutions generated are the best, we regularly review the ethical use of AI via semi-annual meetings of a diverse advisory group.  Hyphenate’s mission is to democratize the creative genius of its customers’ organizations, and that can only be achieved through an ethical, thoughtful, and responsible approach to AI.
